Do you suffer from excessive sweating?

june1Hyperhidrosis affects between 1 and 3% of people in the UK and is a condition that causes a person to sweat excessively. Considering the large number of people affected, hyperhidrosis is rarely discussed due to the great embarrassment all who are afflicted by it experience. 90% of people affected say that they had experienced negative and cruel comments from other people because of their sweating.

Hyperhidrosis has no cure but there are treatments that can help those affected to live more comfortably. Primary hyperhidrosis has no underlying medical cause and commonly affects the hands, feet and armpits. Secondary hyperhidrosis affects the whole body. It is increased sweating that can be caused by conditions such as diabetes, thyroid problems, hormonal issues like the menopause or side effects of medication.

Here at The Dental Studio, we are always looking at ways we can help you to enjoy life to the full. So, we are pleased to offer botulinum toxin injections to help treat hyperhidrosis.

These injections are administered by our principal dentist Stephen Pitt into the affected area (currently armpits only) to help reduce sweating by blocking the signals from the brain to the sweat glands. On average it would take around 15-20 small injections to treat the armpits, with the procedure only lasting a mere 25-30 minutes.

Treatment has been shown to result in an 82-87% decrease in seating and the results can be seen within 2 to 4 days, with the full effects noted within 2 weeks. The procedure will need to be repeated every four to six months to ensure the ongoing effectiveness.

This quick and easy treatment can give truly phenomenal results, improving confidence and self-esteem.
