Hello, my names Zara and I’ve been a dental nurse at The Dental Studio a little over three years now.
I completed my Level 3 Diploma in Dental Nursing at Colchester Institute at the Age of 19.
Why I chose to have braces:
I have always been conscious of my teeth and never been happy with the appearance of them. The tooth on my top right is very wonky, and to me, completely stands out.
Furthermore, I recently attended an iTero course in Birmingham with work last month which gave me further insight into my own teeth. Whilst highlighting the tooth I was already conscious of, the occlusogram tool was able to show me my occlusal clearance, the areas in red show me where my teeth have full contact which could over time cause some tooth wear. This was already very mildly apparent in my case which is why I decided it was time to correct this with some braces.
The brace fitting:
The day had finally come to having my brace fitted, and whilst being slightly nervous I was very excited for the teeth straightening journey ahead of me. Ian placed a retraction tool (as seen to the left) in my mouth. Once it was in place a green gel (as also seen to the left) was placed on my teeth to clean the surface. Ian then proceeded to wash this off whilst Eliza (one of our dental nurses) suctioned the water out of my mouth. Eliza then placed the bracket cement on the brackets as Ian placed the glue on my teeth, once prepared Eliza handed the brackets to Ian one at a time. Ian then set the brackets using the light. A tooth coloured wire was placed between the brackets and held into place by small clear elastics. That was it, the brace was fitted. It was so quick and didnt hurt at all. I was then given some oral health instructions on how to maintain a clean brace and I was given a bag of all the essentials to ensure I was able to do this correctly.

I am so happy with how discreet this brace is. The brace is barely noticable, in fact the people that were unaware I had a brace on hadn’t even noticed when I was talking to them which is so good and exactly what I was looking for.
