Orthodontics in Colchester; treatments we provide

There are so many types of orthodontics in Colchester, but which one would be best for me?

Every patient who requires an orthodontist is different. We always aim to approach each patient as an individual, trying to find which treatment would be best to correct their particular misalignment. orthodontics-in-colchester

Economic braces

The standard metal brace may be looked down upon by some, but it continues to be the most effective orthodontics in Colchester, treating the widest range of misalignments due to its ubiquitous nature and the ability to assemble it from off-the-shelf components. It also continues to be the most cost-effective treatment option available in our clinic and the standard choice of NHS patients under the age of 18.

There are no age restrictions on the effective use of standard braces.

Six Month Smiles

Six Month Smiles are all about the rapid and aggressive application of orthodontics in Colchester. They are considered more suitable for adults than younger patients, as they require a degree of discipline and commitment to the treatment, with more regular visits to the clinic. The payoff of this is to condense the overall treatment from years down to six months, allowing you to reach a target, possibly a big event like a wedding or prepare for a change in career.

Treatment with Six Month Smiles usually focuses on the aesthetic aspects of orthodontics, only moving your most visible teeth in a way that maximises their aesthetic value and symmetry.

It is not appropriate for intense misalignment or clinically relevant orthodontic work.

The Cfast brace system

fast braces are a form of short lingual braces. Lingual braces are adhered to the rear surface of your teeth and therefore the brackets face inwards towards your tongue. This makes them a subtle and almost unnoticeable brace in everyday use.

The Cfast system focuses on the most visible six teeth at the front of the mouth, aiming to realign them cosmetically, minimising the time spent wearing them with a minimum quantity of impact to your daily life. They are most popular among working professionals, as they are so convenient to use, with treatment times averaging five months.

Invisalign

Invisalign is the leading provider of clear aligners. These see-through plastic trays fit over your teeth and push them into new positions. You have a whole series of aligners that you wear as part of treatment, each one is used for about two weeks before moving onto the next. They are probably our most comfortable orthodontic treatment, not only to use everyday, but also during the fitting which involves having a 3D scan taken of the inside of your mouth, which is far less invasive than having a brace fitted.

They pair this comfort with being almost invisible, allowing you to operate comfortably and confidently throughout the day. They have the added advantage of immediately correcting any lisp or whistle you may experience from misaligned teeth. Unlike many of our other orthodontic treatments, you can remove your aligners at any time, but are only recommended to do so in order to eat and drink. Too much time spent out of your aligners will extend the treatment process, so aim to keep them in for around 20-22 hours each day.
