This will help to form the basis of your dental record and enables the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/the-dental-studio.com\/dental-team\"><b>dentist<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to provide you with the best possible dental treatment plan.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-6601\" src=\"https:\/\/the-dental-studio.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/img2-07-05-2018.jpg\" alt=\"img2-07-05-2018\" width=\"200\" height=\"150\" \/><\/p>\n<p><b>What does the dentist need to know?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is important that you fill out the medical history questionnaire in as much detail as possible. Even if you do not think it relates to your oral hygiene, it is important that the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/the-dental-studio.com\/dental-team\"><b>dentist<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is aware if you are taking medication, are undergoing any medical treatment, have ongoing medical conditions or have had any surgery within the last six months. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We are treating you, not just your teeth! <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Below are some examples of questions and the reasons we ask them<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Have you ever had liver or kidney disease?<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0If yes, you may require lower doses of local anaesthetic. You may also be at increased risk of gingival hyperplasia.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Do you suffer from Arthritis?<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> This can affect your oral health and some medications for arthritis can affect treatment options.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Do you suffer from any Infectious Diseases such as HIV\/Hepatitis?<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0This can make you more susceptible to infection and mean it takes longer to heal, which may affect treatment options. There is also a higher risk of certain gum conditions.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>How many units of alcohol do you drink per week?<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> If you smoke as well as drink alcohol, you are at increased risk of Oral Cancer. Gum disease is also more likely.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Details of your medication are especially important. Certain medications will affect which treatments it is safe to perform within the dental surgery. If you are on blood thinning medication such as Warfarin, the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/the-dental-studio.com\/dental-team\"><b>dentist<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> may need you to get your INR checked to confirm your clotting levels before performing certain invasive procedures, such as tooth extractions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-6598 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/the-dental-studio.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/img3-07-05-2018.jpg\" alt=\"img3-07-05-2018\" width=\"200\" height=\"150\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><b>How often does my medical history need updating?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After your first visit, it is important that you notify the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/the-dental-studio.com\/dental-team\"><b>dentist<\/b><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of any changes to your medical history every time you attend.
