These are infections of the mouth caused by bacteria. The mouth contains the highest amount of bacteria in the body; hundreds of different types thrive in its environment. Gum disease is the number one cause of tooth loss in the UK.<br \/>\nThe bacteria in the mouth travel throughout the body via inhalation, ingestion and circulation causing adverse effects to it.<br \/>\nSigns and Symptoms of gum disease:<br \/>\nBleeding<br \/>\nRedness<br \/>\nSwelling<br \/>\nLoose teeth<br \/>\nDrifting to a different position<br \/>\nGum recession<br \/>\nBad Breath (Halitosis)<br \/>\nFoul Taste in mouth<br \/>\nOccasionally Discomfort<br \/>\nSymptomless<\/p>\n<p>Cardiovascular Disease<br \/>\nGum disease is linked to cardiovascular (heart) problems, which is the number one cause of death worldwide. This is because the bacteria living in the mouth travels through the blood stream and becomes embedded into the walls of the heart, making you more prone to heart problems, such as hypertension.<br \/>\nThere is a condition called infective endocarditis which is inflammation of the lining of the heart, which can be serious.
